Build your own planted terrarium using driftwood, rocks, mosses and tropical plants. Explore different arrangements, from forest floors to vertical planted landscapes, and create a display that can continue growing with proper care.
What You’ll Do
From structure to planting, one step at a time
Learn how to plan and assemble your nature terrarium, from the supporting structure to the final plant arrangement. The building process depends on whether you choose a single-session or multi-session workshop.
01 — Prepare the Base
Creating the foundation
Understand how expanding foam is used to form the background and support the landscape. Single-session workshops begin with a prepared, cured structure, while multi-session participants can take part in the foam application process.
02 — Arrange Wood & Rocks
Building your natural landscape
Position driftwood and rocks to create height, depth and planting spaces. Secure the hardscape and refine the arrangement before adding substrate and plants.
03 — Plant & Finish
Bringing your landscape to life
Add substrate, mosses and selected tropical plants, including bromeliads, hoyas and air plants. Complete the arrangement and learn the basic care needed to support continued growth.
