WORKSHOPS / ISOPOD BIOACTIVE TERRARIUM
Isopod Bioactive Terrarium Workshop in Singapore
Build your own living bioactive terrarium and learn how to create a balanced habitat for isopods using substrate, leaf litter, and natural materials.
What You’ll Create
A self-sustaining micro-ecosystem
Create your own isopod bioactive terrarium designed to support a living ecosystem. Each setup includes layered substrate, natural materials, and a population of isopods — built to function, not just display.
What You'll be doing
The workshop aims to stimulate curiosity and ingenuity. It begins with an exploration of isopod biology and behavior, focusing on their living habits, dietary preferences, and ecological significance. Participants can then engage in interactive activities, such as constructing their personalized isopod habitat.
Using eco-conscious materials, you'll craft a self-sustaining terrarium with plants, soil, and decor. Expert guidance ensures proper isopod care for a thriving post-workshop habitat.
Build Substrate / Create Foundation
Layering for moisture balance and structure
Begin by building the base of your ecosystem. A drainage layer is established using LECA, followed by a soil mix to support moisture retention and microbial activity. This forms the foundation for a stable bioactive system.
Create Habitat / Structure Environment
Adding cover, texture, and feeding zones
Develop the habitat by arranging cork bark and layering leaf litter. This creates shelter, regulates humidity, and provides essential feeding material for isopods, shaping how the ecosystem functions.
Balanced environment for isopods
Prepare for Livestock / Complete Ecosystem
Complete your setup by refining the layout and preparing it for isopods. You’ll understand how different species interact with the environment and how to maintain a healthy, balanced system over time.

Real Workshop Results
Each participant builds a unique ecosystem shaped by their choice of materials and layout. While every setup follows the same core principles, the final result reflects how you arrange structure, layering, and habitat.
From compact beginner setups to more complex environments, every terrarium is a functional system designed to support life — not just display it.
