STEP 7: Maintain & Protect
This guide is part of Green Chapter’s Beginner Paths: Mecha & Moss. In this series, we explore how to combine miniature landscapes, moss ecosystems, and model kits to create immersive living worlds with structure, storytelling, and atmosphere.
Follow the guides in sequence for the best learning experience.
Keep your world stable over time
At this point, your Mecha & Moss Terrarium is complete.
But this is not the end.
A terrarium is a living system —
and your RX-78-2 now exists inside that system.
Without proper care:
- moisture can build up
- plants can overgrow
- your model can slowly degrade
This step ensures your work lasts.
Understanding the Environment
A closed-style terrarium naturally traps moisture.
Over time, you may notice:
- condensation forming on glass
- moss becoming overly wet
- reduced airflow inside the container
This is normal — but it must be controlled.
Your goal is balance, not constant intervention.
Basic Maintenance Routine
Most of your maintenance is simple and occasional.
You will mainly:
- trim overgrown moss or plants
- remove dead or decaying material
- adjust areas where growth becomes too dense
Less is more.
Avoid disturbing the system too often.

Protecting Your Gunpla
Unlike plants, your RX-78-2 is not naturally suited for humidity.
Even after sealing, long-term exposure can:
- dull the finish
- weaken paint layers
- cause minor surface wear
To reduce this risk:
- always seal your model properly before placement
- avoid excessive moisture buildup
- keep direct water contact minimal
If needed, you can reapply protective coating over time.
Controlling Moisture
The most important factor is water control.
If your terrarium becomes too wet:
- open the container briefly to release excess humidity
- reduce misting frequency
- allow condensation to settle naturally
If too dry:
- apply a light mist
- avoid pouring water directly
Small adjustments are enough.

What You Should See
A well-maintained terrarium feels stable.
You should see:
- controlled, healthy plant growth
- minimal condensation
- a Gunpla that still looks clean and intact
Nothing should feel overgrown or neglected.
If it does, step in early and make small corrections.
Final Thought
Your Mecha & Moss Terrarium is not just a display.
It is a system you’ve built —
a balance between structure, life, and time.
The more you observe it,
the better you’ll understand how to care for it.
