Benibachi Shrimp Food 50g
Big & Small Pad Mix
Natural Daily Staple for Shrimp — Also Suitable as a Supplementary Food for Isopods & Small Crabs
Benibachi Shrimp Food is a Japanese-formulated staple food made from natural ingredients for ornamental shrimp. The 50g pack combines 30g of larger food pads with 20g of smaller granules, allowing animals of different sizes to feed more evenly.
The larger pieces provide a central feeding point for adult shrimp, while the smaller particles disperse around the substrate where juveniles and less dominant individuals can forage.
Its formulation includes ingredients such as kelp, brewer's yeast, vegetable proteins, vitamins, minerals, calcium, chitin and chitosan, providing a broad nutritional profile suitable for regular shrimp feeding.
Key Benefits
Two Food Sizes in One Pack
Large pads suit adult shrimp and group feeding, while smaller granules spread food across a wider area for juveniles and smaller individuals.
Supports Shell Development & Molting
Calcium and crustacean-derived components such as chitin and chitosan provide nutrients associated with exoskeleton development and normal molting.
Supports Natural Coloration
A varied nutritional profile with minerals and naturally derived ingredients helps support healthy pigmentation and overall condition.
Natural Ingredient-Based Formula
Made with a blend of kelp, brewer's yeast, vegetable proteins, vitamins and minerals without relying on artificial coloration as the primary nutritional approach.
How to Use
Shrimp Aquarium
Use as a regular staple food for Caridina and Neocaridina shrimp.
Feed approximately one large pad for every 15–20 shrimp, adjusting according to colony size and how quickly the food is consumed.
For smaller colonies, break a pad into smaller portions.
The small granules can be useful in breeding tanks because they distribute food across the substrate rather than concentrating the entire colony around one piece.
Feed conservatively and remove significant uneaten food after approximately 2–3 hours.
Isopod Terrarium
Benibachi Shrimp Food can also be used as a supplementary food for isopods, rather than as their primary diet.
Isopods are terrestrial crustaceans and benefit from varied sources of minerals and supplementary protein, but their core diet should still consist of materials such as:
-
Decaying leaf litter
-
Decomposing wood
-
Calcium sources
-
Occasional supplementary protein
Break a large pad into small pieces and place it on a feeding dish, cork bark or another relatively dry surface.
For established colonies, the smaller granules may also be offered sparingly around the feeding area.
Because protein-rich foods can mold quickly in humid terrariums, provide only an amount that can be consumed relatively quickly and remove persistent leftovers.
Recommended use: supplementary feeding approximately 1–2 times per week, adjusted to colony size and consumption.
Vampire Crab & Small Crab Paludarium
The pads can also be offered as a supplementary prepared food for Vampire Crabs and other small omnivorous crabs.
Break the pad into appropriately sized pieces and place them:
-
On the terrestrial feeding area
-
On a feeding dish
-
At the moist shoreline
-
In shallow water where the food can be retrieved easily
The pads soften after absorbing water, allowing small crabs to tear pieces away with their claws.
Avoid excessive feeding, particularly in small paludarium water sections where uneaten food can quickly increase the organic load.
Remove significant leftovers after feeding.
Feeding Principle
This food is best used differently across the three ecosystems:
Shrimp: Regular staple food
Vampire Crab: Supplementary prepared food
Isopod: Supplementary protein and mineral food
For isopods especially, Benibachi Shrimp Food should not replace leaf litter, decaying wood or a dedicated calcium source.
Storage
Keep the package tightly sealed after opening and store it in a cool, dry and dark location away from humidity.
For longer-term storage, refrigeration can help maintain freshness. Always prevent moisture from entering the package and use clean, dry utensils when handling the food.
