Natural Dried Spinach for Shrimp, Isopods & Crabs

Benibachi Dry Spinach is a premium Japanese supplementary food made from carefully dried spinach, providing a simple source of plant matter, natural fibre, vitamins and minerals for ornamental shrimp.

The whole-leaf format makes it easy to portion while creating a natural grazing surface. As the leaf absorbs moisture, it gradually softens and allows multiple animals to feed from the same piece.

Originally intended for shrimp, dried spinach is also well suited as a supplementary plant food for isopods and omnivorous vampire crabs.

Key Benefits

  • Natural Spinach-Based Nutrition
Provides plant-derived nutrients including fibre, carotenoids, vitamins and naturally occurring minerals.

  • Vegetable Component for a Varied Diet
Useful for balancing feeding rotations that also contain protein-rich and other specialized foods.

  • Natural Grazing Format
The dried leaf provides a broad feeding surface that multiple shrimp or terrestrial invertebrates can graze from.

  • Easy to Portion
Simply tear off an appropriate piece according to the size and number of animals being fed.

  • Suitable Across Multiple Invertebrate Habitats
Can be used as supplementary plant food in shrimp aquariums, isopod terrariums and vampire crab paludariums.

How to Use

Shrimp Aquarium

Recommended use: Plant nutrition + grazing food

Offer a small piece 1–2 times per week as part of a varied feeding rotation.

Place the dried leaf directly into the aquarium. It will gradually absorb water and soften, allowing shrimp to gather and graze from its surface.

Adjust the portion according to the size of the colony. Remove substantial uneaten material before it begins to deteriorate.

Suitable for:
Caridina · Neocaridina · juvenile and adult freshwater shrimp

Vampire Crab Paludarium

Recommended use: Plant-based dietary variety

Vampire crabs are omnivorous and should receive a varied diet containing both animal- and plant-derived foods.

Offer a small piece of Dry Spinach 1–2 times per week on a feeding dish, flat stone or accessible land area.

The leaf can be lightly moistened if necessary to soften it, but avoid leaving large amounts of wet food in the enclosure.

Rotate with suitable protein foods and other dietary components rather than using spinach as the sole food.

Suitable for:
Geosesarma spp. · Vampire Crabs

Isopod Terrarium

Recommended use: Supplementary green food

Dry Spinach is a suitable supplementary plant food for commonly kept isopods.

Isopods naturally consume decomposing plant material, with leaf litter and decaying wood forming important components of many captive diets. Dry Spinach adds a different form of plant matter and can be offered periodically for additional dietary variety.

Place a small piece approximately once per week on a feeding dish, leaf, piece of cork or other easily monitored surface.

The primary diet should continue to include appropriate leaf litter and decomposing wood, together with a suitable calcium source and other supplementary foods according to the species being maintained.

Do not assume that leftover spinach can simply remain indefinitely because springtails are present. Remove significant uneaten material if it begins to mold or deteriorate.

Suitable for:
Cubaris · Porcellio · Armadillidium and other commonly kept detritivorous isopods

Feeding Principle

Dry Spinach = Plant Nutrition + Grazing

Dry Spinach works best as the green component of a varied feeding programme.

For shrimp, rotate it with staple, protein, colour-support and mineral foods.

For vampire crabs, combine it with appropriate animal-based foods and other plant matter.

For isopods, use it as a supplementary food alongside their normal leaf litter, decomposing wood and calcium sources.

Important Feeding Note

A little goes a long way.

Dried spinach absorbs moisture readily. In aquariums and humid terrestrial habitats, excessive portions can eventually break down and contribute unnecessary organic waste.

Start with a small piece and increase the portion only when the previous amount is being consumed reliably.

Storage

Keep the package tightly sealed in a cool, dry and dark place, protected from humidity and direct sunlight.

Always handle the leaves with clean, dry hands or tools.

If refrigerated, keep the package sealed and allow it to reach room temperature before opening to minimise condensation inside the package.
