5 x 5m Tropical Stream Pond

This 5 × 5 metre tropical stream pond was developed over approximately four months as an integrated water and planting landscape. At its core is a custom fibreglass pond and filtration system, connected to a tiered glass stream structure and a subsidiary stream entering from the side. Around five tonnes of carefully selected rock were used to shape the banks, channels, cascades and transitions between land and water. Misting and fogging systems create the humid microclimate needed for extensive moss growth and a diverse planting palette of gesneriads, begonias, Ficus, ferns, creepers and other tropical species. Rather than treating the pond, stream and garden as separate features, the entire landscape was designed as one continuous environment—water moving through rock, roots and vegetation to create the character of a naturally established tropical stream.
