Ultra-Lightweight Charcoal Cork Board Hideout
A lightweight artificial hide designed to provide a dark, sheltered space for isopods and other small terrarium inhabitants.
Made from charcoal-infused cork board material, the hide has a rough, highly textured surface that resembles natural bark while remaining much lighter than stone or ceramic shelters. Its porous structure provides plenty of surface texture for isopods to grip, explore and shelter around.
The charcoal component also provides adsorptive properties, helping to adsorb some odour-causing compounds within the enclosure. Unlike natural cork bark, the manufactured structure gives the hide a more consistent shape and creates a stable sheltered cavity underneath.
Key Features
-
Ultra-lightweight construction – easy to position without adding significant weight to the enclosure
-
Charcoal cork board material – porous and highly textured
-
Sheltered interior – creates a dark retreat for resting and hiding
-
Odour adsorption – charcoal provides useful adsorptive properties
-
Natural bark-like texture – blends easily into leaf litter, soil and bioactive layouts
-
Easy to reposition – useful for checking colonies without moving heavy hardscape
-
Suitable for isopod cultures, terrariums and other small invertebrate setups
A Practical Alternative to Natural Cork
Natural cork bark remains an excellent habitat material, but every piece has a different shape. This charcoal cork hide provides a more predictable shelter while retaining a coarse, irregular surface that works naturally within a bioactive enclosure.
It can be placed directly over the substrate or partially surrounded with leaf litter to create a more natural transition into the habitat.
Note: As with any porous material used in a humid enclosure, periodically inspect and clean or replace the hide when necessary. Charcoal adsorption capacity is also finite and should not be treated as a substitute for good ventilation and enclosure hygiene.
