The submerged leaves are elongate. Good lighting provided, the younger submerged leaves are intensively dark red coloured, and the plant forms a compact leaf rosette. As well as other swordplants, 'Red Chamäleon' prefers a nutrient-rich bottom; also liquid fertilization and CO₂supply enhance a magnificient growth.
